Message from the Head Teacher - April 2019

If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and pick up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? — Matthew 16: 24-26

As we head towards the end of the Spring term and into Holy Week, may we all take the time to reflect and consider the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ. As witnesses to our faith, sacrifice and penance help us to remember the importance of humanity, especially during challenging times in our lives.

It has been a busy term for all of us but there have been many successes. Y11 and Y13 are in the final stages of preparation for their examinations and we have already had some excellent results for the Y11 Health and Social Care students. Well done to those students, Mrs Benton and Ms McLaughlin for getting the exam season off to such a fantastic start.

We have had lots of students taking part in visits and activities this term. We achieved great success in the swimming gala and the STEM day and last week we had a number of students involved in a DIY project where they built benches and planters for the school site. The American students from our exchange school in Arizona spent a week with us at the beginning of March and this week we have students going to the Natural History Museum and Paris! School is always busy and I am delighted that students are given so many opportunities to develop their learning outside of the classroom thanks to the commitment of our staff.

Next term sees the start of the examination season and preparations for the new intake of Y7 students. We have 2 INSET days in June where staff will be preparing for changes to the curriculum for next September as we continue to drive improvement.

I would like to thank you as parents and carers for your ongoing support in sending your child to school on time, smartly dressed and ready for learning. It is the little things that make a big difference! I will be writing to you again in the later part of the summer term to inform you of some updates to our uniform policy for next September.

May I wish all of you a very happy and holy Easter break. I look forward to welcoming your children back into school on Monday 29th April.

God Bless

Helen Burrows
