Message from the Head Teacher

July 15, 2019

It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was welcoming your children back to school for the start of the academic year in September 2018. Time certainly flies and it’s difficult to believe that we are now approaching the end of the year. I know that thoughts are now turning to the summer holidays and I too am looking forward to some rest and relaxation!

Archbishop Ilsley Catholic School continues to go from strength to strength. There has been so much to celebrate throughout the year and your children have been a credit to you. Working with young people is a blessing and a joy and I never fail to have my spirits lifted when I walk around the school and talk to our students.

The world we live in is a complex and often frightening place. We know that violent crime is on the increase in our society and we are still in a state of uncertainty with the political landscape and Brexit. Are we seeing the effects of these in schools? Absolutely. But for all of the worries about the world our young people are growing up in, there is great hope for your children. They will be the next generation of doctors, teachers, engineers, manufacturers, care workers and other professions that we need in our country and beyond. If your children leave us with the qualifications and the characteristics they need to become first class citizens then we will have done our job in school.

We say farewell to some of our staff this summer and welcome some new teachers in September. I would like to say a particular thank you to Ms Saggu, who is retiring after many years of service to the school. We wish her and the other staff who are leaving us the very best for the future.

As the summer holiday appears on the horizon, please take some time over the break to make sure your child is prepared for returning to school in September. Your child will be given a letter about the arrangements for the start of term and these arrangements will also be on the school website. I will be writing to you again in September with some updates that will happen over the school holiday.

Please know that you are all in my prayers and thoughts this summer. I look forward to welcoming your children back to school in September.

Have a very happy and peaceful summer.

God Bless

Helen Burrows
