Thursday 16th February

Dear parents and carers

I write to you as this busy half term draws to a close.

As a reminder, the school will be closed tomorrow, Friday 17th February, for whole staff training. The school gates will be re-open for a new five week half term on Monday 27th February.

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday will take place over half term. Whereas I am sure we will all enjoy our pancakes, may I encourage you to visit your local church to reflect on the true meaning of Easter. As lent begins, we remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us to absolve our sins. If you visit https://www.holysoulschurch.co.uk you can see the times of the masses over this important week.

Attendance is one aspect of school life that needs to improve and one in which we all have a part to play. If your child is ill, they should stay at home. If they are fit and healthy or even if they have a minor cough or cold, they should be in school by 8:40 at the latest. We will be rewarding all those pupils who have been in school and on time every day over the first four weeks in our ‘20 day challenge’. In the last week, there will be a rewards week.

May I thank you all for making me so welcome at Archbishop Ilsley. It is a wonderful school with excellent staff. Your child(ren) is one of many who have been so polite and friendly to me. There have been too many highlights to mention. Please follow us on Twitter @ABIlsley to get a snapshot of the busy and varied school life. I feel blessed to be Head Teacher of this fantastic school.

Finally, you may have seen in the news that National Education Union (NEU) intend to strike on Wednesday 1st March. If the strike goes ahead, the school will close to all pupils with the exception of Years 7, 11 and 13 on this day.

I wish all pupils a very enjoyable half term.
