Letter from Miss Burrows - 23rd February 2021

Dear Pupils, Parents and Carers,

Yesterday the Prime Minister announced that schools in England will open from March 8th. We are delighted that we will be welcoming our pupils back into school in the not too distant future and I am sure many parents and carers will be feeling a sense of relief that home schooling is coming to an end soon!

Secondary schools are required to carry out Covid-19 testing for pupils on their return to school and have been given the flexibility to do a phased return for pupils in the week commencing March 8th in order to accommodate this. We will be operating a phased return that week, with pupils in years 10-13 returning first, followed by pupils in years 7, 8 and 9. It is anticipated that years 11 and 13 will be invited back into school first, with the aim to have all pupils back in lessons by Monday 15th March.

I am sure you can appreciate that mass Covid-19 testing for pupils is a huge logistical challenge and will require considerable planning and staffing. A phased return is the only way we are able to carry out testing prior to all pupils being back in lessons and I will write to you next week with details of the arrangements for each year group.

There will be a further 2 rounds of testing once all pupils are back in school before testing moves to home testing, supervised by parents and carers.

Consent letters for testing will be sent out next week. No pupil will be tested unless parents/ carers have given consent and it is not mandatory for pupils to take a test.

Key worker provision will end on Friday 5th March.

I would also like to make everyone aware that pupils are now expected to wear a face covering in lessons and they must have a face covering with them on their return to school.

We are awaiting further announcements on Y11 and Y13 grading and we will update you as soon as we know more.

Over the next few weeks there will be a lot of information to share with you and I would ask that you check the school website regularly.

Thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to seeing our wonderful pupils back in school very soon.

God Bless

Miss H Burrows
