We have had a wonderful morning at Archbishop Ilsley. It was a delight to welcome some of our Y12 students back and to feel the school come 'alive' again! The students have been exemplary in following the guidelines and they are enjoying seeing their teachers and each other again. We look forward to welcoming more Y12 students this week and Y10 from next week.
Today I am sharing some very important information with you regarding our tutoring systems for September. For the last few years we have operated a vertical tutoring system in school with students from years 7-10 in mixed form groups. From September 2020 we will be returning to a horizontal system where students will be in a form group with other students from the same year. This has been a big decision, but as a school we feel that with the changes to the curriculum and requirements of PHSE, students will benefit from being with their peers so that we can offer age appropriate provision. This has become especially important in light of recent events with Covid-19.
The House system will remain, with each year group becoming a House, led by one of the current Heads of House. Please read the letter below which explains the changes in more detail.
I appreciate that change is always difficult but we firmly believe that a horizontal system is better suited to the needs of the children, especially in the current climate. The pastoral team are already working hard to have everything in place for September and we are confident that this change will be of huge benefit.
Today we see the opening of non-essential retail; another step towards normality. Let us continue to hope and pray that the situation improves and that we will be able to see loved ones very soon.
