COMPUTER SCIENCE & IT

Our objective is to encourage pupils to think logically and creatively to solve real-life problems. We encourage them to embrace the technology around them to better themselves and the world.

We encourage our students to unlock their full potential in fun and meaningful ways. Whether the pupil’s main interest is web and app design, office ICT skills, gaming or programming, the Computing Department provides the environment in which to nurture their enthusiasm and develop their skills and knowledge. Whatever stage a pupil is at within their school career they always have the potential to become the next Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates or Steve Jobs.

During their time at Archbishop Ilsley pupils will experience visiting the first ever electronic Computer “Colossus” at Bletchley Park, take part in Master Class coding days and have the opportunity to program in many different environments including controlling Lego Mindstorm robots, Raspberry Pi’s and BBC Micro:bits.

Our Aims are to:

  • Provide high-quality computing education that equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.

  • Give moral and ethical guidance to pupils to ensure their safety when using technology.

  • Provide insights into as many natural and artificial systems in a fun and meaningful environment.

  • To INSPIRE!

We have 6 ICT Suites of 20 computers and 1 theory classroom.

"We believe Computing is the most exciting and relevant subject that students learn. We have a skilled team of teachers, from varied fields of expertise, who provide stimulating and engaging lessons which are fully up to date with the ever-changing nature of the subject"

KEY STAGE 3

Key Stage 3 – Our main focus is to promote problem solving skills and programming. We have created a very diverse and exciting curriculum for our students to explore. From topics such as Xbox game creation,
control systems and robot programming using Lego Mindstorms robots. It allows all pupils to try new skills and software packages to prepare them for later life.

KEY STAGE 4

We have 3 different paths for students to follow during the GCSE years. The ICT courses focuses on practical skills that are used in the business world today. Topics from spreadsheets to desktop publishing
are all covered in this course and prepare students for the working world. The Computing course is aimed at pupils who want to develop their skills in programming which involves problem solving, algorithm writing and how systems work.
