This section of the website has been written by pupils for pupils.
Hopefully any pupils in Year 6 and 7 will find it useful. Pupils that have moved half way through a year will also find it a good starting point.
We are the ‘Envision group’. A group started by Mr Vidaurri and continued by Mr Morris. There are 12 of us in total. Mr Clinton asked us to write a section for new pupils and this is what we came up with! We hope you fit it useful.
Thank you to…
Ayema, Chloe, Alby, Morgan, Olivia, Liam, Oliver, Dominic, Lorelai, Philippa, Sarah and Eleanor.
A lot of people take different types of transport to school. For example – buses, walking and getting driven. There are bus stops very close to the school in Acocks Green. The most popular bus in the 11 and there is a bus stop really close to the school gate.
Entrance and opening times
Archbishop Ilsley opens their gates in the morning at 8:00 and closes them at 8:45. You enter the school through the blue gate on Warwick Road (opposite Poundland and up the road from Greggs!)
Once you’re in school, you have three options.
Playground – you can hang around the playground and chat to your friends.
Corridors – if it’s cold, you could head to O’Donnell Hall, near Student Services (there are benches there) or just hang around the corridors.
Canteen – Julie runs our canteen and is really friendly. You can sit in there have a bagel or some toast.
Every morning a different year group would have an assembly during form time. You line up on the playground on the day you have assembly.
Monday: year 11
Tuesday: year 10
Wednesday: year 9
Thursday: year 8
Friday: year 7
Form time starts at 8:45 in the morning. When you join Archbishop Ilsley, you are designated a teacher that you will see once a day during the morning to register you, give you information that is needed, read a book and say a morning prayer. It will then end at 9:05 for you to start walking to your first lesson.
We recommend that you try your hardest to not be late to your lessons because you will get marked down and will have a break detention and a conversation with your form tutor. The more times that you are late the longer your detention will be.
Break time starts at 11:15 lasting 20 minutes, you then have 5 minute transitions between lessons and social time to be on time to your lesson.
During break time there are many things that you can do.
You can get some snacks and drinks from the canteen like hot chocolate (winter exclusive) or Radnor Splash in the winter or toast, pizza and hash browns all year round.
The playgrounds are also divided into year groups.
The playground near Humanities and the Library are for year 9-year 11.
The playground near Science and the muga is just for year 7. The canteen area is open to all to enter and get food, then return to their designated area. The library, run by Mrs Rani, is also available to all to hang out and borrow books.
However, there are areas which are off limits, including the gated area between the astro and muga, the Victoria road entrance gates to the car park, the grass area by the sheltered seats for the astro turf and the sixth form corridor.
The canteen is led by our wonderful, hardworking Julie. Not only does she feed 600 kids every day she cares about every single one of us. So does every single canteen member of staff! So if you ever have any worries don’t be afraid to talk to the lovely canteen staff.
What do you like most about our schools canteen? – “I like the food”
What would you say to a new student worried about lunchtimes? – “don’t worry, come and see me every day and our canteen is the best in the country”
How do the staff in the canteen help students with allergies? – “We advise you to let the school know of any allergies so we can make accommodations for your needs during lunch!”
Do you think students should worry about the school’s canteen? – “No, the canteen is well maintained and a safe place to enjoy lunch”
Allergens
If you have any allergies make sure to tell our staff so they can provide you with the right food choices. There is a large poster in the canteen, and if you have any concerns about allergies don’t be afraid to talk to the canteen staff and Julie about it!
Places to eat outdoors
Canteen – there are many seats in the canteen, you can get hot or cold lunch but if you aren’t a fan of crowds there are many other places you can spend your lunchtime!
Benches – there are dozens of benches around the school campus and there are zones for different year zones (talked about later on in the page) and you can sit with your friends, or make new friends to have fun during lunch!
On your playground – you can eat with your friends, and play in your area! Most people do this since they prefer it to the canteen, and it is easier to talk and walk with your friends outside!
Places to eat indoors
The Hub – the hub is a quiet space to go not just for break and lunch, but if you need someone to talk to and a quiet space to be and hang out with new people
The library – a chill space to hang with your friends and a warm place to go in the winter. Perfect for people who like a chill place and books. The librarian (Mrs Rani) is really welcoming and allows anyone to go at break and lunch!
Zones and restrictions at lunch
1. Year 7 : science playground
2. Year 8, 9, 10 : main playground
3. Year 11 : bowl area (outside canteen)
Pupils should not enter these areas if not assigned to these areas, you will get consequences if you are out of bounds.
Toilets
Before form time 8.00 -8.40
Break time 11.15-11.35
lunch time 1.40-2.10
End of the day 3.15-4.00 after school
That is also the same time for filling water bottles. There should be no reason to leave your lesson unless you really need to go to the toilet, you feel really sick, you have a bad problem. Or a teacher needs you to go and do something for them because they can’t leave the classroom.
There many different after school clubs such as
Tuesday
Math club
Badminton club
Wednesday
Board games
Thursday
Homework club
Science club (only year 7 and 8)
Drama club
Debate club
Friday
Dance

First of all, what is SEND? SEND, also known as the Special Educational Needs Department, consists of a category of several members of our school’s staff that work together to support children that may have special educational needs within our school. This can impact a pupil’s ability to learn in a positive manner!
They are happy to support those of us who have additional needs. They make sure it does not have a negative impact on us.
Archbishop Ilsley has quite a few pupils with a range of additional needs and teachers make reasonable adjustments to their teaching to help us learn.
If you have a physical or mental disability, speak to the SEND team to provide you with the help you need! From a timeout pass to a meeting, they will help you to the best of their ability.
Below you will find further information that may be helpful if your child has a special educational need or disability. If you have concerns, please contact the school and speak in the first instance to Mr Koryl.
The SEND Code of Practice defines SEND under four broad areas of need:
Communication and interaction
Cognition and learning
Social, emotional, and mental health difficulties
Sensory and/or physical needs
